Getting warm and balmy weather makes me want to get out of my apartment. In May, it’s a good time to hang out around the city. My wife and I went to watch a professional volleyball game for the first time. The game was amazing, plus I found there was a nice place where I wanted to go back again. Today, I’m going to share the places where I visited. Also, it’s going to be a good exercise for you. Let’s go!
1. Walking Around Bayside Path
*You almost forget that you’re in Tokyo.
*These areas were built for the Tokyo Olympic Games in 2020. Now it is used for public space.
On the way to Ariake Arena, I found a nice path along the bayside. After getting off the train at Ariake Tennis no Mori Station (有明テニスの森駅), I walked along the bayside. I felt pretty comfortable because the paths were very clean, and a lot of nature. You can recharge your batteries. When you get a bit tired, you can rest on the stone steps. Except for busy times like live concerts at Ariake Arena, it’s safe to say that it’s a nice spot where you can cool down. There are still some places under construction. There weren’t that many people.
2. Nice Vibe to Unwind
*You might not be able to find this restaurant easily on your own… but don’t worry, Google Maps will get you there.
*Kiyari Bridge also has nice views.
After hanging out at the paths, we crossed Kiyari Bridge (木遣り橋) to get to a nice restaurant. It took around 20 minutes or so on foot. It’s a nice burst of exercise before having lunch.
*If you’re lucky, you can get terrace tables with bayside views, and you can admire the sunset in this wonderful Bay Area. They also offer barbecue sites, fire pit sites, and outdoor places, perfect for friends and families. Food-wise, I’m not going to say the fish and chips are the best in town, but it’s a pretty decent one. I’d rather enjoy the vibe and winding down here. You can stay whenever you want unless you order the course menus. It’s suited for chatting for long hours with friends, family, and your partner without any distractions. Staff are always friendly, it’s a bit hard to find this place, but it’s worth visiting.
*After enjoying the sunset, we were heading to a nice tuna place to wrap up our adventure. As you can see, the blue arrow says it takes 35 minutes on foot. You must pay a sacrifice to appreciate the best tuna. Before that, let me introduce Tsukiji Fish Market. I wrote about it before, you might want to visit the Toyosu area another time. Sorry for going off a tangent, let’s go.
*As you can see, the bridge is Toyosu Big Bridge (豊洲大橋), which you are going to cross.
3. The Best Maguro-Don (マグロ丼) in Town
*There is a cozy restaurant almost at the end of the road. It’s located in the fish storage area. It’s usually hard to find it. You can see a bunch of tower mansions lit up across the sea.
If you want to know about maguro, which means tuna fish, please check my article below.
*You must try simple maguro-don (マグロ丼) first, and then you may go for another one. This is because freshly cooked tuna is really delicious. It’s no exaggeration to say that this shop is one of the best maguro restaurants. Oh, remember you don’t have to whole wasabi above the picture that is green in color. You can put it aside and dip a portion that you like with soy sauce.
*They offer a variety of seafood menus. Every single meal is not to be missed!
*This vending machine offers whale meat. You might not know about it, but whale meat is a part of our culture. Actually, I’ve never seen this vending machine before. If you get a chance, you might want to try it.
How was that? Our short trip culminated in having amazing maguro-don. Unfortunately, this restaurant will be closing down at the end of this December. I’m actually a repeat customer there. I’m going to have it as much as possible by the last day. Thank you for taking the time to read my article to the end. See you soon!
